It’s no secret that, as Americans, we’re addicted to our cell  phones. However, the phones have become one of the most significant distractions to learning in school. That situation is about to change in 27J Schools.

This year, we are cracking down on student cell phone use in schools. Policy JICJ prohibits the student use of cell phones and all other electronic communication devices.

Here are some specifics.

Elementary Schools
Students are prohibited from using cell phones during school hours.

Secondary Schools
District policy prohibits students from using cell phones during classes or other instructional time. Check with your school administration about other restrictions such as during passing periods, lunch and before/after school.

27J School Buses
Students may use cell phones on the bus as long as they don’t create a distraction, disruption or safety concern.

Students on Education Plans
Students on an IEP, 504 or building education plan may have use of their cell phones if called for in their education plan. Such usage will be monitored by school staff.

Students violating this policy will be subject to discipline outlined in the student code of conduct, other superintendent policies, regulations, state or federal law. The student code of conduct is Superintendent Policy JK. Any disregard for this policy including violation of local, state or federal law will involve local law enforcement and its carrying out of applicable laws.
